Working with SVG layers in the 3D Creator

Upload SVGs to recolor your artwork, split it into separate shapes and combine shapes in the Creator.

Upload an SVG to recolor your artwork, split it into separate shapes and combine shapes, all without leaving the Creator. Each SVG is added as one layer.

How do I add an SVG?

  1. Drag your .svg file onto the upload zone, or click Add from my assets.

  2. The SVG is added as one layer.

OR

  1. Click on Add shape layer, or Graphics Library.

  2. Select a layer among the shape presets we have in Graphics Library.

Text in your SVG is turned into shapes on upload.

Why was my SVG added as an image?

Some SVGs are too complex to edit, for example files with photos inside, gradients or filters. These are added as an image: you can move, resize, rotate and crop them, but not recolor them.

To edit one anyway, click Make editable.

⚠️ Make editable may change some details. Gradients become a single color, and filters and effects are removed. Press Ctrl/⌘ + Z to go back.

How do I change colors?

  1. Select the SVG layer.

  2. Open Colors. Each color in the file is listed once.

  3. Click a swatch or type a new hex code. Every shape that uses that color updates.

To restyle the whole artwork at once, click Browse color palettes and pick a palette or create a Custom palette. Stroke colors and stroke width are editable too.

How do I edit individual shapes?

  1. Select the SVG layer.

  2. Click Split into layers.

  3. The SVG becomes a group, and each shape is its own layer. Nothing moves on the canvas.

  4. Open the group in the Layers panel, or double-click it on the canvas, to select a shape.

The button is hidden if the SVG has only one shape. To undo a split, press Ctrl/⌘ + Z. A split can't be merged back later. For working with groups, see How to group layers in the 3D Creator.

How do I combine shapes?

Select two or more shapes in the same group, or on the canvas outside any group, and open Combine shapes.

  • Union: merges into one shape.

  • Subtract: cuts the top shape from the bottom one.

  • Intersect: keeps only the overlapping area.

  • Exclude: removes the overlapping area.

Shapes stay editable after you combine them. An SVG that isn't split, or a whole group, supports Union only. Images can't be combined.

What else can I adjust?

  • Size: W and H with the ratio lock, Scale %, Rotation and Opacity. Reset returns the original size.

  • Clip to imported bounds: on by default. Turn it off to show artwork that sits outside the SVG frame.
